Ways to care for your mental health

Understanding Feelings

Every feeling has a message.

What this means

Feelings are signals, not problems. They tell you what matters to you. All feelings are okay — what we do with them is what we practice.

Signs to notice

  • • Hard to name what you feel
  • • Big feelings that come very fast
  • • Feeling numb or 'blank'

Healthy coping ideas

  • • Name the feeling out loud
  • • Notice where it sits in your body
  • • Give the feeling a size from 1 to 10

Journal prompts

“What emotion are you feeling right now?”

“Where do you feel that emotion in your body?”

“What might this feeling be trying to tell you?”

“Name three things that are going well today.”

“What color would today's feeling be?”

“What is one feeling you had yesterday that already changed?”

Short activity: Feelings Weather Report

  2. Say why you chose it
